لابُدَّthere is no escape مِنْfrom نفثَةِan outpouring مَصْدورِone with an anguished heart
فحاذِرواso beware صَوْلَةَthe onslaught of مَحذورِone to be feared
An anguished heart must have its outpouring;
The sighs of a grieving heart must be let out
so beware the onslaught of one to be feared.
So beware the dangers of pent-up hurt

His raids have made the world forget,
The world has forgotten its raids
in poetry, the raids of daring warriors.
Unlike the raids of chivalrous poetry
أَثكَلَنيhe bereaved me of غِيدَgraceful beauties قَوافٍverses غَدَتْhad become

He bereaved me of graceful beauties—verses that had become
The cooing of doves has overburdened me
lovelier than graceful, perfumed maidens,
More beautiful than the cooing of musk-scented birds

sweeter in scent than the east wind's breeze
A breeze gentler than the morning zephyr
that came bearing the fragrance of roses from Jur,
Bringing the scent of roses from a garden
منfrom بعدِafter ماthe time when فتَّحْتُI opened أنوارَهاtheir blossoms
فابتسمَتْso they smiled مثلَlike الأزاهيرِflowers
after I had opened their blossoms,
After her radiance opened up
and they smiled like flowers,
She smiled like flowers in bloom

and my mind spent the night weary among them,
And my thoughts toiled through the night besotted
engraving them as dinars are engraved.

O you who steal from obscure poets what they have crafted
O thief of heedlessness, what have they composed
in verse—and from the famous poets too—
Of rhymes and fame's admirers?

grant 'Halt, you two; let us weep' protection, for
Give sorrow's lament a rest, for it has
it has spent the night with a heart terrified of you.
Spent the night in a heart filled with dread
