وضاق علينا وهو رحب المساكن
And a house whose courtyard was empty of all good
A home devoid of all goodness, its end,
hemmed us in, though its rooms were spacious.
Though spacious, has grown constricted for us.

دمى في انقطاع الرزق لا في المحاسن
As though we, alongside the walls in its recesses,
It seems that those walls, in their corners,
were statues in lacking sustenance, not in beauty.
Are shedding my blood, not adorning my virtues.
