عَمَّencompassed البلادَthe land صَنيعُهاits bounty إنعاماas a blessing
A radiant cloud unfurls banners for the rain;
The lovely one spreads flags for life,
Its bounty has blessed the whole land.
Her work has spread benevolence over the countries.
مَرَّتْit passed بِظَمآنِover the thirsty الثَّرىthe earth وبُروقُهاand its lightning flashes
تَشرىflash وأدمُعُهاand its tears تَفيضُpour out سِجاماin torrents
It passed over the thirsty earth, its lightning
She passed by the thirst of the land, and her lightnings
Flashing and its tears pouring down in torrents,
Spread while her tears overflowed copiously.
مثلَlike المُحِبِّthe lover تَرَقرَقَتْwelled up عَبَراتُهhis tears
والشَّوقُand longing يُذكيkindles فيin حَشاهhis heart ضِراماa blaze
Like a lover whose tears have welled up,
Like a lover, her tears flowed
While longing kindles a blaze within his heart.
And yearning kindled a fire in her breasts.
فغدَتْso they became عُيونُeyes النَّورِthe blossoms فيهin it كأنَّهاas though they were
مُقَلٌeyes تَرىdeem طِيبَthe sweetness of الغُموضِclosing the eyes حَراماforbidden
So the blossoms' eyes there became like
So the eyes of light in it became as though they were
Eyes that deem the sweetness of sleep forbidden.
A ladle seeing the sweetness of the mist as forbidden.
أَهْدىbestowed الحَياthe rain للوَرْدِupon the roses فيin شَجَراتِهtheir bushes

The rain bestowed upon the roses on their bushes
The lovely one gave shyness to the roses in their trees
A blush, and deepened the jasmine's passion.
And increased the jasmine's passion.
وتَشَقَّقَتْand split open قُمْصُtunics الشَّقيقِفَخِلْتُهُthe anemones, so I fancied them

And the anemones' tunics split open, so I fancied them
The petals of the anemone cracked open so I left it
Goblets in the garden, filled with wine.
In the garden like cups filled with wine.
