علىupon فَخِدٍa thigh كالعُودِlike a rod منشارُa saw عرعرِjuniper
على فَخِدٍ كالعُودِ منشارُ عرعرِ
And a grasshopper walks on a shank as though it were
A gerboa walks on legs as though they were
a saw for juniper upon a thigh like a rod;
A saw on a thigh like a plank of Ūd wood
مُكتَّبةٍpatterned like script تجلوreveals الجَناحَthe wing كأنَّهاas though she were
مُكتَّبةٍ تجلو الجَناحَ كأنَّها
عروسٌa bride تجلَّتrevealed herself فيin عِطافٍa mantle مُعنبَرِscented with ambergris
عروسٌ تجلَّت في عِطافٍ مُعنبَرِ
Patterned like script, she reveals her wing as though she were
Decorated, spreading its wings as though it were
a bride unveiled in an ambergris-scented mantle.
