لما اعتنقنا لوداع النوى

لما اعتنقنا لوداع النوى

وكدت من حرِّ الجوى أحرقه

وكدت من حرِّ الجوى أحرقه

When we embraced in farewell before parting,

And I nearly burned him with the heat of love's anguish,

رأيتُ قلبي سارَ قدامهُ

رأيتُ قلبي سارَ قدامهُ

وأدمعي تجري وما تلحقه

وأدمعي تجري وما تلحقه

I saw my heart had gone ahead of him,

While my tears ran, yet could not catch him.
