قالوا علا نيل مصر في زيادته

حتى لقد بلغ الأهرام حين طمى

حتى لقد بلغ الأهرام حين طمى

They said, “Egypt’s Nile rose as its waters swelled,

They said the Nile of Egypt rose in its increase

until it indeed reached the pyramids when it overflowed.”

Until indeed it reached the pyramids when it flooded

فقلت هذا عجيب في بلادكم

فقلت هذا عجيب في بلادكم

أن ابن ستة عشرٍ يبلغ الهرما

أن ابن ستة عشرٍ يبلغ الهرما

So I said, “This is strange in your land:

So I said this is wondrous in your lands

that a sixteen-year-old should reach old age!”

That a sixteen year old would reach the pyramid
