فقال عجيبٌ كل أمرك في الهوى
The one I love drew far away, and I died of longing.
The one I loved called out, so I died of love.
Then he said, “Strange is all your conduct in love:
Amazed, he said, "All your affairs are about love!"

ولم تتصبر إذ رميتك بالنوى
You endured my gaze when its arrows struck you,
I was patient when his glances shot their arrows,
yet did not summon patience when I struck you with separation.”
Yet you could not be patient when I pelted you with my gaze.
