يا عاذلي في هوى مهفهفة

ضيعت في غير طائل زمنك

O you who reproach me for loving a slender-waisted woman,

You have wasted your time to no avail.

انظر إلى وجهها المليح وقل

سبحان من بالجمال قد شحنك

Look at her lovely face and say:

Glory to the One who has filled you with beauty.

ولا تعارض رمح القوام فلم

تقم لديه إلا وقد طعنك

And do not confront the spear of her stature, for never

Have you stood before it without its already piercing you.

وعد عن لحظها إذا نظرت

فإنه يشرق الضحا وسنك

And turn away from her glance when she looks,

For it chokes your drowsiness at forenoon.

ومن عجيبٍ أن فت ناظرها

وأنت ثبت الجنان ما فتنك

And it is strange that the languor of her eye,

Though you are steadfast of heart, has not bewitched you.
