ياO صاحبيmy two companions اسعدانيyou two, help me بالدموعwith tears فقدfor indeed
يا صاحبي اسعداني بالدموع فقد
أنفقتI have spent دمعيmy tears علىon ماwhat نالنيhas befallen me سرفاexcessively
أنفقت دمعي على ما نالني سرفا
O my two companions, aid me with your tears, for
O friend, delight me with tears, for I
I have spent my tears to excess on what has befallen me.
Have wasted my tears on what I obtained wastefully
وأمسكاand you two, hold fast القلبthe heart لاnot تذهبvanish بقيتهwhat remains of it
وأمسكا القلب لا تذهب بقيته
إذاwhen تذكرit recalls عيشاًa life بالحمىin the sanctuary سلفاthat has passed
إذا تذكر عيشاً بالحمى سلفا
And hold my heart fast, lest what remains of it vanish
And restrain the heart, do not take what remains of it
when it recalls a bygone life in the sanctuary.
When I remember a life with fever already lived
وأوقفانيand you two, make me stand علىbeside ذاكthat الضريحtomb فإنfor if
وأوقفاني على ذاك الضريح فإن
قضيتI die قولاyou two, say قضيتyou have met your end بالحقjustly وانصرفاand you two, depart
قضيت قولا قضيت بالحق وانصرفا
And have me stand beside that tomb, for if
And stop me at that tomb, for if
I die, say, 'Your end was just,' and depart.
I finish a saying, I finish with truth and leave
