يا موت حجبتني عن المحبوب
ظلماًunjustly ومنعتنيand you barred me منfrom المطلوبwhat is sought
ظلماً ومنعتني من المطلوب
O Death, you have kept me from the beloved,
O Death, you have unjustly veiled me from my beloved,
unjustly, and barred me from what I sought.
And prevented me from my heart's desire,
ياO قبرgrave تجافkeep away الارضthe earth عنfrom مضجعهhis resting place
يا قبر تجاف الارض عن مضجعه
ماnot يصلحis fit ذاكthat الوجهthe face للتعذيبfor torment
ما يصلح ذاك الوجه للتعذيب
O grave, keep the earth away from his resting place;
O Grave, the earth is indifferent to his bed,
that face is not fit for torment.
That face does not deserve torment.
