أقول وحر الرمل قد زاد وقده

أقول وحر الرمل قد زاد وقده

وليس إلى شم النسيم سبيل

وليس إلى شم النسيم سبيل

I say, as the sand's heat blazes ever more fiercely,

I say, and the heat of the sand has increased its burning,

And there is no way to inhale the breeze:

And there is no way to smell the breeze,

أظن نسيم الجو قد مات وانقضى

أظن نسيم الجو قد مات وانقضى

فعهدي به في الشام وهو عليلُ

فعهدي به في الشام وهو عليلُ

I think the air's breeze has died and passed away,

I think the breeze of the air has died and passed away,

For when I last knew it in al-Sham, it was ailing.

For I knew it in Damascus while it was sick.
