فضلي ولكنها لم يرضها حكمي
I complained of my lot to my times, and between me [wording unclear]—
I complained of my fate to the ages
my merit; but my judgment did not satisfy her.
Though my merit was great, they were not pleased

جرى ولكنها لم تغل عن هممي
Desires—a decree of fate kept me from attaining them;
An adverse fortune thwarted my hopes
it ran its course, yet they did not exceed my aspirations.
Yet noble courage has never failed me
