وفيه ظبيٌ مهفهف

I attended a gathering of people,

I attended a gathering of people

and in it was a slender gazelle.

In which there was a fool babbling

قاموا له وحموه

قاموا له وحموه

مني وقالوا تعفف

مني وقالوا تعفف

They rose for him and shielded him

They stood up for him and protected him

from me, saying, "Be chaste."

From me and said show restraint

دنوا ودبوا وذبوا

دنوا ودبوا وذبوا

فلم يفتهم مصحف

فلم يفتهم مصحف

They drew near, crept, and defended him—

They crept, crawled, and buzzed

so no mispointed word escaped them.

But they could not comprehend the Koran
