كمHow often جرحwounded القلبthe heart منهof his جفنٌan eyelid
كم جرح القلب منه جفنٌ
كالسيفِlike the sword فيin صحةِthe soundness of القياسِthe comparison
كالسيفِ في صحةِ القياسِ
How often has an eyelid of his wounded the heart,
How many a wound my heart from him concealed
Like a sword, by a sound comparison!
Like a sword in its sheath preserved
وطبand treated آسmyrtle العذارthe cheek's down جرحيmy wound
وطب آس العذار جرحي
فصحso it proved true أنthat الطبيبthe physician آسىmy myrtle (a pun on 'healer')
فصح أن الطبيب آسى
And the myrtle of his cheek's down healed my wound,
Yet medicine of my reproacher healed my wound
So it proved true that the physician is my myrtle.
So it's evident the healer caused me pain
