تملكhas taken mastery over فكرهhis thought رقthe bondage of المعانيmeanings
تملك فكره رق المعاني
فماso not اضحىhas become يراعis daunted لهof his يراعُa reed pen
فما اضحى يراع له يراعُ
His thought has made meanings its slaves;
You possess a spirit of delicate meaning
so no reed pen of his is now daunted.
So it is no longer fitting for one to be wary of it
وليسand there is no للفظهfor his diction فيin نظمverse مغنىabode
وليس للفظه في نظم مغنى
يحاولهseeks to reach it امتنانٌfavor وامتناعand refusal
يحاوله امتنانٌ وامتناع
His diction in verse has no abode
And its words in prose have no charm
that favor and refusal seek to reach.
That gratitude or refusal might attempt
