على الفور لم أقض منه المراد

His phantom came and turned back,

His ghost appeared and bent back

at once; I had not gained from it what I desired.

Immediately unfulfilled was my desire

فكان كسهم غدا صاعداً

ولما انتهت قوةُ الدفع عاد

So it was like an arrow that rose upward,

Like an arrow that rose up high

and when its propelling force was spent, it returned.
