  1. غاب عني حيناً ولما تبدى

    لم أجد لي من قولهم مات بدا

    He was absent from me for a while, and when he appeared,

    I found no escape from their saying, “He has died.”

  2. قمرٌ زار بعد ما ازور عني

    فبراني وأوجد القلب وجدا

    A moon visited after turning away from me,

    then wasted me away and filled the heart with longing.

  3. لو أتي الصب صبره وهو يسعى

    ما تصدى له ولو مات صداً

    Were the lover’s patience to come running to him,

    he would not turn to it, even if he died of rejection.
