رأى قصدكم في الهدى أبلجا

رأى قصدكم في الهدى أبلجا

فنحوكم عن رجا عرجا

فنحوكم عن رجا عرجا

He saw that seeking you was radiant with guidance,

I saw your intention for guidance as shining bright,

so, out of hope, he turned toward you.

So I hurried hopefully toward you.

فلم يلق باب الرضا منكم

فلم يلق باب الرضا منكم

ولا الجود عن مرتج مرتجا

ولا الجود عن مرتج مرتجا

And he found neither your door of favor

But I did not find the door of contentment with you

nor that of generosity closed to a hopeful seeker.

Nor generous gifts from a refuge full of hope.

وأصبح من فضلكم كلما

وأصبح من فضلكم كلما

جنى وأتى مستجيراً نجا

جنى وأتى مستجيراً نجا

And now, through your grace, whenever

And I found through your virtue whenever

he did wrong and came seeking refuge, he was saved.

I gathered and came seeking protection - I was saved.

فلا أمن إلا لمن أمكم

فلا أمن إلا لمن أمكم

وعاذ بأبوابكم والتجا

وعاذ بأبوابكم والتجا

So there is safety only for whoever seeks you

So there is no safety except for one whom you protect

and takes refuge at your doors and seeks shelter.

And takes refuge at your gates, drawing near.
