تردى أديم الليل تيهاً بنفسه
وأطمعand he raised hopes حتىeven فيof منالreaching الكواكبthe stars
وأطمع حتى في منال الكواكب
He robed himself in the skin of night, proud of himself,
The veil of night wanders astray by itself
And raised hopes even of reaching the stars.
And aspires even to the stars' attainment
وأبدىand he showed لرائيهto his beholder بغرةِin the radiance of وجههِhis face
وأبدى لرائيه بغرةِ وجههِ
بياضthe whiteness of العطاياthe gifts فيamid سوادthe blackness of المطالبthe requests
بياض العطايا في سواد المطالب
And showed his beholder, in the radiance of his face,
It displays to its onlookers the radiance of its face
The whiteness of gifts amid the blackness of requests.
