بلانيhe afflicted me بتسهيديby keeping me sleepless وسقميand my sickness وعبرتيand my tears
بلاني بتسهيدي وسقمي وعبرتي
وزادand increased ملاميreproach directed at me فيهon his account طولthe length of ملالهِhis weariness
وزاد ملامي فيه طول ملالهِ
He afflicted me with sleeplessness, sickness, and tears.
My sickness and tears revealed my longing,
And his prolonged weariness increased the reproach I bore on his account.
And my blame increased with his long indifference.
فماso not فزتI gained معwith هذاthis العذابtorment بطائلٍwith anything worthwhile
فما فزت مع هذا العذاب بطائلٍ
سوىexcept حسنgoodness of ظنيmy expectation فيin تمنيlonging for وصالهunion with him
سوى حسن ظني في تمني وصاله
So amid this torment I gained nothing of worth
Yet with all this torment I gained nothing
Except my hopeful expectation in longing for union with him.
Except my wishful thinking of being reunited.
