أقول لهم إياكم وهجاءنا

أقول لهم إياكم وهجاءنا

فقالوا وهل في ذا هجائك داءُ

I tell them, “Beware of our satire.”

They replied, “And is there any harm in this satire of yours?”

فلا تلحني إن كنت أنحرهم هجا

فلا تلحني إن كنت أنحرهم هجا

لأنهم اختاروا الهجاءَ وهم شاءُ

لأنهم اختاروا الهجاءَ وهم شاءُ

So do not blame me if I slaughter them with satire,

For they chose satire, and they are sheep.
