Sol 6.1

  1. يا سيداً رب العلا

    قد زانه وشرفه

    O master, whom the Lord of glory

    has adorned and ennobled,

  2. وقدر الصواب في

    أقلامه المحرفه

    and ordained correctness in

    his slant-cut pens,

  3. وأوضح الفضل لمن

    يطلبه وعرفه

    and revealed excellence to whoever

    seeks it, and made it known:

  4. أبدعت لغزاً حسناً

    صفاته مستطرفه

    You have devised a fine riddle,

    whose qualities are delightfully novel.

  5. مثلث الحروف كم

    ربع رب معرفه

    Three-lettered—how often

    it has baffled a master of learning!

  6. حضرته يانعةٌ

    بهيئةٍ مشرفه

    Its presence is flourishing,

    in a stately form.

  7. كم زان أرضا أقفرت

    ووجنةً مزخرفه

    How often it has adorned land grown barren

    and an ornamented cheek!

  8. فالثلث منه سورةٌ

    آياتها مشرفه

    For a third of it is a surah

    whose verses are revered;

  9. بل جبلٌ أحاط بال

    أرض وذاك معرفه

    nay, a mountain encircling the

    earth—and that is well known.

  10. وانظر لثلثيه تجد

    كليهما في طرفه

    Look at its two thirds: you will find

    both of them at its end.

  11. بقيت ما جر النسي

    م في الرياض مطرفه

    May you endure as long as the breeze trails

    its bordered cloak through the gardens,

  12. في ظل سعدٍ يرتقى

    من المعالي عرفه

    in the shade of good fortune, where one scales

    its crest among the heights of glory.
