إنif أناI لمdo not أجدI strive فيin كسبearning مالٍwealth
إن أنا لم أجد في كسب مالٍ
لاقتناءto acquire العلاglory فكيفthen how أجودُI give generously
لاقتناء العلا فكيف أجودُ
If I do not strive to earn wealth
If I do not strive to earn wealth
to attain high honor, how can I give generously?
to attain glory, then how can I give generously?
وإذاand if لمdo not أسدI meet خلةthe need خلof a friend
وإذا لم أسد خلة خل
هاتcome now قلtell ليme باللهby God كيفhow أسودI attain eminence
هات قل لي بالله كيف أسود
And if I do not meet a friend’s need,
And if I do not meet a friend's need,
come, tell me, by God: how can I become a lord?
come, tell me, by God, how can I attain eminence?
