I wrote when his dwelling had grown distant,
I wrote to a lord whose dwelling lay far away,
and the sīn-words of my state are an endowment in his keeping:
And the sīn letters of my state are reserved for him:
فسعيso my striving إليهtoward him سموىmy elevation بهthrough him
فسعي إليه سموى به
سؤاليmy inquiry عنهabout him سلاميmy greeting عليهupon him
سؤالي عنه سلامي عليه
thus a striving toward him was named with that letter—
So my striving is toward him, my elevation through him;
my asking after him, my greeting upon him.
My inquiries concern him, my greetings are upon him.
