  1. دهم ليل تسعى وشهب نهارٍ

    ولها في مسارح العمر مرعى

    The black steeds of night and gray steeds of day run on;

    And in life's meadows they have pasture.

  2. أثرت في الفؤاد بالهم قنعا

    وأثارت في الفود بالشيب نقعا

    They stirred up dust in the heart with sorrow,

    And raised dust at the temple with gray hair.
