وحقك لم أسمع وعذري واضحٌ
ملامreproach فتىًa young man فيin صحةٍgood health وفراغand leisure
ملام فتىً في صحةٍ وفراغ
By your honor, I have not heard—and my excuse is clear—
Though you are right, hear my clear excuse -
the reproach of a young man in good health and at leisure.
Do not blame a youth, carefree and hale.
وأينand where إذاif ماemphatic particle كنتyou are فيin الحكمjudgment منصفاًfair
وأين إذا ما كنت في الحكم منصفاً
مطالdelay بلاغيmy message منcompared with مطالبdemands لاغٍan idle talker
مطال بلاغي من مطالب لاغٍ
And how, if you are fair in judgment,
Where is the justice, if you judge my case -
does my message’s delay compare with an idle talker’s demands?
My eloquence, though others' words may fail.
