وأحورand a dark-eyed one أحوىdusky فاتنenchanting الطرفِthe gaze كمhow often غداhas become
وأحور أحوى فاتن الطرفِ كم غدا
بهbecause of him قلبُthe heart صبٍّof a lovesick lover بالجوىwith love's anguish يتضرمblazes
به قلبُ صبٍّ بالجوى يتضرم
And a dark-eyed, dusky beauty with an enchanting gaze—how often has
a lover's heart blazed with love's anguish because of him!
كستنيclothed me ضنىwasting جسميof my body سهامُthe arrows جفونهof his eyelids
كستني ضنى جسمي سهامُ جفونه
فبردُso the cloak سقاميof my sickness فيin هواهlove for him يسهمُis patterned with arrows
فبردُ سقامي في هواه يسهمُ
The arrows of his eyelids clothed me in my body's wasting;
so, in loving him, the cloak of my sickness is patterned with arrows.
