وأيand what منامٍsleep لمنfor one who دمعهhis tears
وأي منامٍ لمن دمعه
بنوءِwith the rain of الثرياthe Pleiades يبلmoistens الثرىthe soil
بنوءِ الثريا يبل الثرى
And what sleep is there for one whose tears
What dreams for one whose tears
Drench the soil like the rain of the Pleiades?
Like the Pleiades wet the earth?
وأيand what قرارrest لعينٍfor an eye غدتhas become
وأي قرار لعينٍ غدت
ومحجرهاand its socket بالبكاfrom weeping استجراblazed up
ومحجرها بالبكا استجرا
And what rest is there for an eye now left
What rest for eyes now turned
With its socket ablaze from weeping?
To caves where weeping dwells?
فياso, oh ماhow much جرىflowed مدمعيmy tear duct بعدكمafter you
فيا ما جرى مدمعي بعدكم
فقولواso say, all of you عفاmay He forgive اللهGod عماfor what جرىhappened
فقولوا عفا الله عما جرى
And oh, how my tears have flowed since you left!
O you whose passing made my tears flow,
So say: 'May God forgive what has happened.'
Say only: May God forgive what came to pass.
