وما اسمٌ رباعي الحروف وإنما

تركب من حرفين من رامها هدى

تركب من حرفين من رامها هدى

And what name has four letters, yet is only

A four-letter name, though comprised

Composed of two letters? Whoever seeks them finds guidance.

Of only two letters - whoever seeks guidance through it

رسولٌ إلى قومٍ كريمٍ كتابه

رسولٌ إلى قومٍ كريمٍ كتابه

به خاطب القرآنُ كل موحدِ

به خاطب القرآنُ كل موحدِ

A messenger to a people—its letter is noble;

A messenger to a generous people, his book

With it the Qur'an addressed every monotheist.

Addressed by the Quran to every monotheist

ويقبل عند الشافعي ومالكٍ

ويقبل عند الشافعي ومالكٍ

وعند الفتى النعمان والحبر أحمدِ

وعند الفتى النعمان والحبر أحمدِ

And it is accepted by al-Shafiʿi and Malik,

Accepted by Al-Shafi'i and Malik

And by the youth al-Nuʿman and the learned scholar Ahmad.

And by Al-Numan the youth and the scholar Ahmad

له في أعالي كل غصنٍ تلاوةٌ

له في أعالي كل غصنٍ تلاوةٌ

بلحنٍ كأن الدوح معبد معبد

بلحنٍ كأن الدوح معبد معبد

It has a recitation in the heights of every bough,

Its recitation echoes from the top of every branch

With a melody, as though the grove were Maʿbad's temple.

In a melody as if the sand dunes were shrine upon shrine
