فقلت لها ما حال عن لون مائه

And a woman asked, 'Why are your tears yellow?'

She asked, why are your tears yellow?

So I told her, 'Their water has not changed color;

I said, they share the color of their stream.

ولكن خدي اصفر من سقم الهوى

But my cheek has yellowed from love's sickness,

But my cheek turned sallow from lovesickness,

So they flowed over it—and water takes the color of its vessel.'

So it stained the water that same tone.
