وذي ورع من الفقهاء يبدي ال
عفافabstinence عنfrom المناصبofficial posts والثراءand wealth
عفاف عن المناصب والثراء
And a pious man among the jurists displays
A scholar of great piety who shuns
abstinence from high office and wealth.
Position and wealth for propriety,
دعوهthey invited him إلىto القضاءthe judgeship فقالand he said سمعاًI hear and obey
دعوه إلى القضاء فقال سمعاً
ومنand who يقوىhas the strength علىto دفعward off القضاءِfate (also: judgeship)
ومن يقوى على دفع القضاءِ
They invited him to the judgeship, and he said, “I obey!”
When called to be a judge, replied,
“And who can ward off the decree of fate?”
"Who can withstand judging?" and sighed.
