تجنب ولاة الأمر لا تقربنهم

إذا كنت ما ترضى ملابس إذلال

Avoid those in authority; never approach them,

Avoid the rulers, do not go near them

if you will not accept the garments of humiliation.

If you do not like the clothes of humiliation

وإن خفت لوما في سؤال امرئ فكم

And if you fear blame in asking a man, how much

reproach for asking awaits one who comes into contact with a governor!
