بالله لا تأس على فائتٍ
مضىhas passed ولاand do not تيئسdespair منof اللطفkindness
مضى ولا تيئس من اللطف
By God, do not grieve over something lost
O God, despair not for what is past
That has passed, nor despair of kindness;
It's gone, nor from kindness refrain
فقدfor perhaps يجئcomes الدهرtime معdespite قسوةٍharshness
فقد يجئ الدهر مع قسوةٍ
فيهwithin it بيومٍwith a day لينgentle العطفِbearing (literally, side)
فيه بيومٍ لين العطفِ
For time may bring, despite the harshness
For time in its harshness may last
Within it, a day gentle in its bearing.
But soften, perchance, once again
