يختفىis concealed فيin الصلاحrighteousness منهمamong them فسادهhis corruption
يختفى في الصلاح منهم فساده
A person has nothing but the company of people
A man has naught but the company of his people
among whose righteousness his corruption is concealed.
His mischief is concealed by their righteousness
صحبةُcompanionship الليلthe night أنجمstars الأفقthe horizon زانتbrought beauty
صحبةُ الليل أنجم الأفق زانت
لدجاةto the darkness ولمand did not يشنهاmar them سوادهits blackness
لدجاة ولم يشنها سواده
The night’s companionship with the horizon’s stars brought beauty
The night's companionship - horizon's stars adorned it
to the darkness, and its blackness did not mar them.
