قال لها في مجلسي أمردٌ

قال لها في مجلسي أمردٌ

ولم تكن لي مثله تنصفُ

ولم تكن لي مثله تنصفُ

A beardless youth said to her in my gathering—

In my session, a fool said to her,

and she did not treat me as fairly as she treated him—

And for me there was no one like her who was fair,

ما نامت القحبة من جهلها

ما نامت القحبة من جهلها

قالت ولا قام الذي تعرف

قالت ولا قام الذي تعرف

“The whore did not sleep because of her ignorance.”

The whore did not sleep out of her ignorance,

She said, “Nor did what you know stand up.”

She said, nor did the one you know stand up.
