من أين هذا اللين في قده

من أين هذا اللين في قده

وما تربى في حجور الربا

وما تربى في حجور الربا

Whence comes this suppleness in his stature?

Where does this suppleness in his stature come from,

And you see nothing like it in the hills’ laps.

When he was not reared in the laps of the hills?

فقل لغصن البان لا ينعطف

فقل لغصن البان لا ينعطف

ولا يخفقه نسيم الصبا

ولا يخفقه نسيم الصبا

So tell the bān-tree branch not to bend,

So tell the bān bough not to bend,

nor let the east wind’s breeze make it flutter.

Nor to be swayed by the east wind's breeze.
