He said, having seen that my tears were blood:

"This, although we are far apart."

فقلت لما فنيت أدمعي

بكيتُ بالدمعِ بلا عين

بكيتُ بالدمعِ بلا عين

So I said, "When my tears were spent,

I wept with tears without an eye—damʿ minus ʿayn: blood."

"I wept in tears, without eyes."
