O you whose Kawthar of kindness

Is clear and purified for those who hope for your bounty,

And you who are the supplicant’s shield whenever

The arrow of his poverty takes aim and strikes him:

I sing of you with praise that has

Swayed the world’s shoulders and stirred longing.

And no wonder at my singing, for I

Have become ring-necked through your unstinting generosity.
