إذاwhen بَرَكَتshe kneels خَرَّتshe drops down علىonto ثَفناتهاher calloused kneeling pads
إذا بَرَكَت خَرَّت على ثَفناتها
مجافيةًholding aloft صلباًher back كَقنطرةِlike the arch of الجِسرِthe bridge
مجافيةً صلباً كَقنطرةِ الجِسرِ
When she kneels, she drops onto her calloused pads,
If she smiles her blessing, it rains on her lips
holding her back aloft like the arch of a bridge.
Arid, solid, like the arch of a bridge
كأنَّas though يديهاher two forelegs حينَwhen تجريrace along ضفورُهاher braided cords
كأنَّ يديها حينَ تجري ضفورُها
طريدانِtwo fugitives والرجلانand the two hindlegs طالبتاtwo seekers of وِترِblood vengeance
طريدانِ والرجلان طالبتا وِترِ
As though her forelegs, when her braided cords race along,
As if her hands where her bracelets flow
were two fugitives, and her hindlegs two seekers of vengeance.
Are two fleeing does and her feet seek their ankles
