    And indeed I offer a praise-poem and a gift

to Asma, the mighty lord of great bounty.

And no one who speaks well and praises generosity

in the house of Badr son of Maʿadd ever regrets it.

And your grandfather Hisn has already built for you in the heights,

as Nuʿman once built for the ʿAlaqim.

Radiant when foreheads clash, he is like

a crescent appearing amid the clouds' curtains.

When we visit his house, he says, 'Welcome!'

'Enter!' Then he shows us no rancor.

Have you not seen that we have already clothed you in a robe

that has risen with you—not for the vile and ugly?

Mufaddah, Hisn's daughter, is your mother; so trace your descent

to a lofty lineage with towering pillars.

And never forget the mother of Badr's sons,

nor Badr, father of those magnanimous stars.

The chieftains of the tribe of Qays keep visiting him,

and Taghlib—those yielding the nose-reins and those consenting.

By my life, Badr's son has indeed become lord through his excellence,

over a loving friend delighted by that and one unwillingly subdued.

And he entrusted the people's affairs, after their confusion,

to every steadfast man, firm in settling affairs and prudent.

And you are the one whose bounty Qays hopes for,

and even Lukayz, from beyond the Lahazim.

You surpassed Nizar, O son of Hisn, in generosity

and resolve amid the charges of massive stallions,

with a camel-driver of heavy loads, when proudly beside him strides

Fazarah, on a day of mounting devastation.
