The sons already know who her young champion is,

    When the stalwarts’ heads bristle.

I am the son of her battle; her reins are with me.

I have never recoiled from her in a retreat for which I could be blamed,

For her days have long put me to the test.

I am not like one for whom her forbidden things became lawful,

Nor do you see her kinship ties show tenderness.

And a night I passed without sleeping through it,

I kept vigil through it until its darkness lifted,

On a sturdy she-camel whose lowing was faint.

Her resolute advance guides the thoroughbred riding camels,

As do her course through the wastes and her thundering gait.

And a tract of land whose landmarks were effaced,

Its owls and night-owls all cry out together.

Indeed, Rizām was duped by its runt:

A tribe whose handsomest member is its lad,

A tribe whose penises are sheathed in foreskins,

It has never known a razor or its cutting edge.
