We left Bakr ibn Wa'il upon al-Nashshash,

and the swords had drunk from them once, and drunk again.

And at ancient al-Falaj lie slain men; whenever there gather

over them the thicket's hyenas, they stay by night and by day.

So we rested at noon on al-Nashshash, a band of us,

noble men; and we subjected that tribe to humiliation, so it was abased.

Whenever the large hyenas seek them out for food,

fat grows in their haunches, and they grow plump.
