لقد لَقِيَت أفناءُ بكر بن وائلٍ

لقد لَقِيَت أفناءُ بكر بن وائلٍ

وهِزَّانُ بالبطحاءِ ضَرباً غَثَمثَما

وهِزَّانُ بالبطحاءِ ضَرباً غَثَمثَما

Indeed, the clans of Bakr ibn Wāʾil have suffered

The tents of Bakr bin Wa'il

and Hizzān, on the gravelly plain, a mighty pounding.

And the braves of Hizzan were ripped to shreds at Al-Bat'ha

إذا ما غَضِبنا غَضبةً مُضَرِيَّةً

إذا ما غَضِبنا غَضبةً مُضَرِيَّةً

هتكنا حِجابَ الشمسِ أو قَطَرَت دما

هتكنا حِجابَ الشمسِ أو قَطَرَت دما

Whenever we rage with the wrath of Muḍar,

When we get angry with a destructive anger

we rend the sun’s veil, or it drips blood.

We tear away the veil of the sun or make blood drip
