بطَعنٍ تحتَ أَلوِيةٍ وضَربِ
He indeed shielded ʿUqayl from the prescribed alms dues,
The duties kept Uqail away,
with spear-thrusts beneath banners and blows.
With a stab under banners and a blow.

You see the alms collector, at his hands, the day he arrived,
You see from it the one who confirms on the day he comes
looming over his clansmen, crucified.
Lengthening over his peers with perseverance.
