إنماnothing but مجلسgathering الندامىthe drinking companions بساطٌa carpet
إنما مجلس الندامى بساطٌ
للأحاديثfor conversations بينهمamong them بسطوهthey spread it out
للأحاديث بينهم بسطوه
The drinking companions’ gathering is but a carpet;
The gathering of friends is but a carpet
For conversation among themselves, they spread it out.
Spread out for tales between them they have strewn
فإذاthen when ماemphatic particle انقضىended الشرابthe drinking وقامواand they rose
فإذا ما انقضى الشراب وقاموا
لانصرافٍto depart منfrom فوقهatop it رفعوهthey lifted it up
لانصرافٍ من فوقه رفعوه
Then, when the drinking ends and they rise
When drinks are done and it is time to leave
To depart from atop it, they lift it up.
They roll it up and take their leave of you
