بكاءُweeping الحبيبِthe beloved لبُعدِbecause of the distance of الديارِthe dwellings
بكاءُ الحبيبِ لبُعدِ الديارِ
She wept at parting, and I was shaken
She wept at parting, and I was shaken
by the beloved’s tears at the distance between our homes.
by the beloved’s weeping over distant dwellings.
كأنَّas though الدموعَthe tears علىupon خَدِّهاher cheek
كأنَّ الدموعَ على خَدِّها
بَقِيَّةُa remnant of طَلٍّdew علىon جُلَّنارِpomegranate blossom
بَقِيَّةُ طَلٍّ على جُلَّنارِ
As though the tears upon her two cheeks
As though the tears upon her cheek
were traces of dew upon pomegranate blossoms.
were a remnant of dew on a pomegranate blossom.
