لَهاshe has جيدُthe neck of ظَبيٍa gazelle واهتِزازُand the swaying of يراعةٍa reed
وعَيناand the two eyes of مَهاةٍan oryx واعتِدالُand the straightness of قَضيبِa slender branch
She has a gazelle’s neck and a reed’s sway,
With the neck of a graceful gazelle and the swaying of a sapling,
And an oryx’s eyes and a slender branch’s straightness,
Eyes of a doe and the poise of a wand,
وَلَفظةُand the utterance of مَنّاعٍone who withholds ولَحظَةُand the glance of باذلٍone who gives freely
وعتبُand the reproach of بَريءٍan innocent person واغتيابُand the backbiting of مُريبِa person under suspicion
And a withholder’s utterance and a generous giver’s glance,
Words of a refusal, yet a look of consent,
And an innocent person’s reproach and a suspect’s backbiting,
Reproach, yet innocent, censure, yet dubious,
وإيماضُand the flashing glance of ذيone possessing جِدٍّearnestness وإعراضُand the turning away of هازلٍone who jests
وسَورَةُand the fury of ذيone possessing طيشٍrecklessness وعطفُand the tenderness of لبيبِa wise person
And an earnest person’s flashing glance and a jester’s turning away,
A wink of sincerity, yet a turn of one who jests,
And a reckless person’s fury and a wise person’s tenderness.
Playful, yet wise, the manner of the bright one I love.
