فأُريه أنَّ لهجره أسبابا
Indeed, my friend forsakes me unjustly,
If a friend is unjustly deserting me
So I show him that his estrangement has its reasons.
I'll show him that he has reasons

وأخاف إن عاتبته أغريته

فأرى له ترك العتاب عتابا
And I fear that if I reproach him, I will embolden him,
And I fear if I reproach him I'll make him angry
So I deem withholding reproach a reproach to him.
So I'll see leaving off reproach as a reproach

And when I am beset by an ignorant man feigning ignorance,
And if I'm confronted by an ignorant fool
Who lets absurd matters pass as right,
Who sees right in the impossible

Silence in response to a reply is itself a reply.
Silence in response is an answer
