إن رُمتَ وَصفَ الراح فأت بما
فيهاin it منof الأَوصافthe qualities منfrom قُربِclose range
فيها من الأَوصاف من قُربِ
If you seek to describe wine, recount
If you wish to describe wine, then come and tell
the qualities it holds, seen up close.
Of its qualities, come closer dear
هيit ماءُwater ياقوتٍruby وإنand if مُزِجَتit is mixed
هي ماءُ ياقوتٍ وإن مُزِجَت
فيin كَأسِهاits cup بالباردwith cold water العَذبِsweet
في كَأسِها بالبارد العَذبِ
It is liquid ruby; and if it is mixed
It is ruby water, and if 'tis mixed
in its cup with cold, sweet water,
In a cup with something cool and sweet
فكأنهاthen it seems like وحبابُهاand its bubbles ذَهَبٌgold
فكأنها وحبابُها ذَهَبٌ
كَلَّلتَهُyou crowned it باللؤلؤwith pearls الرَطبِmoist
كَلَّلتَهُ باللؤلؤ الرَطبِ
then, with its bubbles, it seems like gold
Then it and its bubbles are like gold
that you have crowned with moist pearls.
