سأَلتُI asked المنجِّمَthe astrologer عنabout رحلةٍa journey
أُوَمِّلُI hope بَرّاًby land عليهاon it وبَحراand by sea
I asked the astrologer about a journey
I asked the astrologer about a journey
Which I hope to make by land and sea.
I wished to travel by land and sea
فقالthen he said المنجمthe astrologer ليto me لاdo not تَسِرtravel
فإنَّكfor indeed you إنif سِرتَyou travel لاقيتَyou will encounter شَرّاevil
The astrologer said to me, “Do not travel,
The astrologer said to me, do not travel
For if you travel, you will encounter evil.”
For if you travel, you will meet with evil
فإنfor if كانhe is يَعلمُhe knows أنيthat I أسيرُwill travel
فقدthen indeed جاءhe came بالنَهيwith the prohibition لَغواًidle talk وهُجراand nonsense
For if he knows that I shall travel,
If he knows I will travel
Then his prohibition is idle talk and nonsense.
Then his prohibition is nonsense and nonsense
وإنand if كانhe is يَجهلُhe does not know سيريmy journey فكيفthen how
ترانيyou suppose I إذاif سرتُI travel لاقيتُI encounter ضُرّاharm
And if he does not know of my journey, how
And if he does not know my travel, how
Do you suppose I will encounter harm if I travel?
Would he see me meeting harm if I traveled
